Manual starters are devices that are operated manually. These starters are straightforward to operate and do not require expert intervention. The starter includes a button (or rotary knob) that enables a user to turn the connected equipment on or off.
The buttons feature mechanical linkages that open or close contacts to start or stop the motor. However, this type of starter does not break a control circuit during a power loss, which means the motor could restart automatically when power is restored - a critical safety consideration in some applications.
- Delivers safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse applications
- Provides motor overload protection
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transmits power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.
The electrical current activates the starter motor and engages the starter drive (Bendix gear system), which then connects with the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate the combustion process in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel, as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark to maintain operation.
