Boron-doped diamond (BDD) is an advanced diamond material created by incorporating boron during diamond growth. Electrodes manufactured from boron-doped diamond are referred to as BDD electrodes or boron-doped diamond electrodes. These electrodes are typically produced as thin films through chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
The BDD electrode utilizes boron-doped diamond film as the anode and titanium or similar materials as the cathode for electrolysis. The unique sp3 bond structure of boron-doped diamond film, combined with its electrical conductivity, provides exceptional electrochemical properties including:
- Extremely high oxygen evolution potential
- Widest electrochemical window available
- Lower background current
- Superior physical and chemical stability
- Low adsorption characteristics
These properties make BDD electrodes the ideal anode material for electrochemical oxidation treatment of hard-to-biodegrade organic wastewater.
