Critical Operational Requirements
Polarity Compliance: DC aluminum electrolytic capacitors must be connected with correct polarity. Reverse polarity connection causes short circuits and permanent damage. For applications requiring positive voltage on negative leads, select nonpolar capacitors.
Voltage Rating: Operate below rated working voltage. Exceeding voltage limits increases leakage current and accelerates electrical degradation. Ensure peak voltages never exceed rated specifications.
Charge/Discharge Cycles: Rapid charging and discharging reduces service life through capacity loss and temperature spikes. Use appropriate capacitors for high-frequency applications.
Storage Conditions: Long-term storage increases leakage current, particularly at higher temperatures. Pre-charge capacitors before use if leakage current affects circuit performance.
Ripple Current: Applied ripple current must remain below rated values. Excessive ripple current causes overheating, capacity reduction, and impedance increase (higher DF).
Temperature Management: Ambient temperature directly impacts service life. Scientific data shows 20°C temperature reduction extends lifespan by 10 times.
Lead Strength: Avoid applying tension to capacitor leads, which can cause internal damage, short circuits, or open circuits. During PCB welding, prevent excessive movement.
Welding Heat Resistance: Solid polymer capacitors may degrade polymer layers and increase leakage when exposed to prolonged high temperatures during immersion or wave welding.
PCB Mounting: Ensure circuit board hole spacing matches product specifications. Forced installation creates lead stress, potentially causing short circuits or leakage current increase.
Post-Installation Processing
Cleaning Procedures
Avoid halogenated organic cleaning agents. Use only approved cleaning solutions that guarantee capacitor quality.
After cleaning, dry circuit boards with hot air for minimum 10 minutes. Hot air temperature must not exceed capacitor upper temperature limit.
Fixatives and Coatings
Do not use fixatives or coatings containing halogenated organic compounds.
Prevent sealant materials from sealing capacitor terminal areas.
