302 Stainless Steel Pipe Overview
302 chromium-nickel stainless steel (UNS S30200) is an austenitic chromium-nickel alloy with excellent corrosion resistance, processing performance, and heat resistance characteristics. This material is non-magnetic in the annealed state but becomes magnetic after cold working processes.
Material Properties
302 stainless steel offers corrosion resistance comparable to 304/304L stainless steel across various environments. The material demonstrates sensitivity to carbide precipitation during welding, which may limit certain application scenarios.
Processing & Heat Treatment
- Excellent cold-working and hot-working capabilities for easy processing and shaping
- Annealing temperature range: 1010-1120°C (1850-2050°F)
- Recommended annealing temperature: 1400°C (1900°F)
- Rapid cooling required during 1010-1121°C annealing to prevent chromium carbide precipitation
- Preferred welding methods: resistance or shielded fusion techniques
- Post-welding annealing recommended for maximum intergranular corrosion resistance
