Product Overview
201 stainless steel is an austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese alloy developed to preserve nickel while maintaining properties similar to Type 301 stainless steel. This corrosion-resistant material becomes magnetic during cold working and offers excellent toughness at low temperatures.

Corrosion Resistance
Type 201 serves as an adequate substitute for Type 301 in most mild environments, with destructive scale resistance up to 1500°F (816°C).
Formability
Excellent moldability through bench molding, roll forming, and brake bending. Exhibits greater resilience than Type 301 while maintaining similar stretching capabilities.
Weldability
Can be welded using standard fusion and resistance techniques. AWS E/ER 308 is typically specified when weld filler is required.
Heat Treatment
Cannot be hardened by heat treatment. Annealing recommended at 1850-1950°F (1010-1066°C) followed by water quenching or rapid air cooling.
