The fundamental concept behind a permanent magnet generator is that its rotor contains permanent magnets that create a steady magnetic field. This magnetic field remains constant because it is produced by these materials rather than by an electromagnet.
When the rotor is set in motion by a prime mover, such as a wind turbine, water turbine, or engine, the magnetic field rotates along with it. As this rotating magnetic field passes through the conductors located in the stator windings, it induces an electromotive force within those windings based on the law of electromagnetic induction.
By connecting an external electrical circuit to the stator windings, the induced electromotive force can drive a current, thereby generating usable electrical power. This allows the permanent magnet generator to convert mechanical energy from the prime mover directly into electrical energy efficiently.
