Product Overview
This analog ORP sensor operates on the Nernst equation principle, functioning as a galvanic cell that converts chemical reaction energy into electrical energy. The sensor measures oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), a critical water quality indicator that reflects the collective redox behavior of all substances in solution.
ORP Measurement Principle
ORP integrates multiple water quality parameters to provide insight into aquatic system ecology. Higher ORP values indicate stronger oxidizing capacity, while lower values suggest reducing properties. Positive potential signifies oxidizing characteristics, negative potential indicates reducing characteristics.
Installation Methods
ORP sensor installation diagram showing multiple mounting configurations
  • Sidewall Installation: Ensure interface tilt angle exceeds 15 degrees
  • Top Flange Installation: Note flange dimensions and electrode insertion depth
  • Pipe Installation: Consider pipe diameter, flow velocity, and pressure requirements
  • Flow-Through Installation: Monitor flow velocity and pressure conditions
  • Submersion Installation: Adjust bracket length according to application needs
Maintenance & Care Guidelines
  • Unscrew protective cap and immerse electrode bulb and liquid junction in sample before use
  • Rinse with water if salt crystals form near electrode tip from electrolyte evaporation
  • Check for air bubbles in glass bulb by shaking electrode vertically
  • Keep glass membrane hydrated for optimal response time
  • Store with 3 mol/L KCl solution in protective cap after measurement
  • Clean terminals with anhydrous alcohol if contaminated
  • Avoid prolonged immersion in distilled water, protein solutions, or contact with silicone grease
  • Clean aged electrodes with cloudy membranes by soaking in 10% HCl solution
Calibration & Lifespan
Calibration Procedure
Use fresh pH/ORP standard buffer solutions of appropriate concentrations. Remove protective cap and rinse electrode with distilled water before setting instrument to calibration mode. Regular calibration ensures measurement accuracy.
Expected Lifespan
With proper maintenance, electrodes typically last over 12 months. Shelf life for unused electrodes is 12-24 months when stored correctly. Exposure to strong acids, bases, high temperatures, or corrosive liquids may reduce operational lifespan. Note that electrodes are consumable items.
