Measurement Principle
Water conductivity measurement relies on the movement of dissolved ions under an electric field. When electrodes are inserted into water and current is applied, charged ions migrate toward opposite electrodes, enabling electrical conduction. Conductivity represents the reciprocal of resistivity and serves as a critical indicator for assessing water quality by measuring total dissolved salt content.
The conductivity of aqueous solutions depends on the concentration of dissolved salts and chemical impurities that dissociate into electrolytes. Lower conductivity values indicate purer water, while higher values suggest increased ionic content and impurities.
Temperature significantly affects conductivity measurements. For accurate comparisons, conductivity is typically standardized to 25°C as specific conductance.
Installation Methods
