Introduction  

This instrument is suitable for knitted fabrics, woven fabrics, nonwovens, and laminated fabrics, as well as various fabrics produced by other manufacturing processes. For certain fabrics unsuitable for tensile strength testing, burst strength can be used as an alternative.  

 

Working Principle

A sample of a specified area is placed over an elastic diaphragm and clamped with a circular fixture. Fluid pressure is gradually increased beneath the elastic diaphragm until the sample ruptures within a defined time period. The maximum liquid pressure recorded, minus the correction factor for the elastic diaphragm, gives the burst strength value of the tested sample.
