Thermal evaporation is a physical vapor deposition (PVD) technique for creating thin films of various materials including copper, silver, gold, silicon dioxide, and indium tin oxide. This process occurs in a high-vacuum chamber (pressure < 10⁻⁵ Torr) where source material is thermally heated, increasing its vapor pressure to form a uniform thin film on substrates.
Our systems utilize resistive heating through metallic boats or refractory wire baskets (W or Mo with aluminum oxide coating). Material evaporates from the heated source holder and deposits onto substrates positioned above the sample.
