♦ What Is SMT Assembly?


SMT assembly (Surface Mount Technology, surface mount technology) is the core process of electronic manufacturing, directly to the micro electronic components mounted on the surface of the PCB board welding, to achieve miniaturisation of electronic products, high-performance production.




♦  Characteristics of SMT Assembly:

  • Mounted on the surface: components are directly mounted on the PCB surface (no need to punch holes), saving space and making the board thinner and lighter.

  • Ultra-small components: supports tiny components with 0.2mm pitch (e.g. mobile phone chips, resistors), suitable for high-density circuits.

  • Fully automatic production: the mounter can paste dozens of components per second, high efficiency, suitable for mass production.



♦  Core Steps of SMT Assembly:

  1. Printing solder paste: Brush a layer of solder paste (solder + flux) on the PCB pads.

  2. Paste the components: the mounter precisely paste the components to the position of the solder paste.

  3. Reflow soldering: Heat to melt the solder paste, cool and fix the components.

  4. Inspection: Check the quality of soldering by machine, defective products can be returned for repair.
