What Is PCB Assembly Service?
PCB Assembly Service refers to the process of assembling electronic components onto a printed circuit board (PCB) to create a functional electronic device. It involves several stages, from sourcing components to soldering and testing the final product.
Key Steps in PCB Assembly:
PCB Fabrication:
- The bare PCB is manufactured with copper traces, pads, and layers based on the design file (Gerber file).
Component Sourcing (Procurement):
- Components (resistors, ICs, capacitors, etc.) are sourced based on the Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Can include surface-mount (SMD) and through-hole (THT) components.
Solder Paste Application:
- For SMD components, solder paste is applied to PCB pads using a stencil.
Pick-and-Place Machine:
- Automated machines place SMD components onto the PCB with high precision.
Reflow Soldering:
- The PCB passes through a reflow oven, melting the solder paste to form secure electrical connections.
Through-Hole Component Insertion (if needed):
- THT components are inserted manually or via automated insertion machines.
Wave Soldering (for THT):
- The PCB passes over a wave of molten solder to attach THT components.
Inspection & Testing:
- AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) checks for defects.
- Functional Testing ensures the assembled PCB works as intended.
Final Cleaning & Packaging:
- Flux residues are cleaned, and the PCB is prepared for shipment.
