Calcium silicon, also called calcium silicon alloy or ferro silicon calcium, is a composite alloy mainly composed of silicon and calcium. As a ferroalloy, it contains different impurities such as iron, aluminum, carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus, available in lump or powder form.
The main components of silicon calcium alloy are silicon and calcium, with varying amounts of impurities such as Fe, Al, C, S, and P. Calcium has strong affinity with oxygen, sulfur, hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon in molten steel, making silicon calcium alloys ideal as deoxidizers and desulfurizers.
Additionally, silicon calcium produces a strong exothermic effect when added to molten steel, helping maintain temperature. The calcium vapor creates a stirring effect that promotes the floating of non-metallic slag.
