The Wheel Hub Bearing (HBU) is an integrated "rotation-load bearing" unit installed inside the wheel hub. It connects the wheel to the suspension steering knuckle/axle, bearing the entire weight of the vehicle while ensuring the wheel rotates smoothly at high speeds. It is a key joint at the end of the suspension system.

Common fault symptoms :

1.Buzzing noise

The sound increases with speed and varies with steering input—typical of bearing raceway fatigue.

2.Steering wheel vibration

Prominent between 80–120 km/h, prioritize checking hub bearings if dynamic balance is ineffective.

3.Hub overheating

Touch the hub housing; if the temperature on one side exceeds 80 ℃ and the difference between sides is more than 20 ℃—lubrication failure.

4.ABS false alarm

Cracked magnetic ring in third-generation bearings leads to loss of wheel speed signal, causing ESP light to illuminate.

5.Tire sawtooth wear

Bearing clearance greater than 0.15 mm causes dynamic camber changes in the wheel, leading to uneven tire wear on the inner or outer side.

Repair:

1. Inspection on vehicle

• Lift the vehicle and manually shake the tires while they are unloaded. If the axial clearance is greater than 0.15 mm, the parts should be scrapped.
• Place the electronic stethoscope on the wheel hub shell. If the decibel value exceeds 55 dB and increases linearly with vehicle speed, replace the components.

2. Replacement principles

• Replace in pairs: ensure both left and right components have the same lifespan to avoid uneven damping that could cause deviation.
• New bolts must be used, and pre-tightening should be done using torque plus angle method (commonly 280 N·m + 90°).

3. Press fitting points

• The hydraulic press should only apply pressure to the outer ring of the bearing to prevent damage to the raceway.
• Maintain a 0.05 mm gap between the third-generation flange surface and the steering knuckle locating pin to ensure the end face is flush.

4. ABS calibration

• After replacement, drive at speeds above 20 km/h to trigger one ABS self-check; if the fault light remains on, use a diagnostic tool to clear the code.
