The filter fabric or screen sits in an open drum. Suspension is poured in and the drum is brought up to speed, so the centrifugal field pins the solids against the medium while clear liquid drains out through the drum perforations. Once the batch is dry, the operator stops the machine and lifts the lid on its counter-balanced hinge to take the dewatered cake out by hand.
