Chemical Composition
300 series stainless steel is mainly chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel. For example:
- 304 stainless steel: Chromium (Cr) 18.00%-20.00%, Nickel (Ni) 8.00%-10.50%
- 316 stainless steel: Chromium (Cr) 16.00%-18.00%, Nickel (Ni) 10.00%-14.00%, Molybdenum (Mo) 2.00%-3.00%
Performance Characteristics
- Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to atmospheric, fresh water, seawater, and many chemical media. 316 stainless steel maintains good corrosion resistance in chloride environments.
- Mechanical properties: Moderate strength with good toughness and low work hardening rate, suitable for various processing operations.
- Magnetic properties: Typically non-magnetic, though cold working may induce weak magnetism.
