Product Overview

The Yaskawa CDBR-40450D is a 480 VAC-class dynamic braking transistor module for industrial variable-frequency drive systems. It is also commonly searched as CDBR-4045D, but CDBR-40450D is the complete current model designation.

During motor deceleration or operation with an overhauling load, regenerated energy can increase the DC bus voltage of the drive. The CDBR-40450D switches this energy into a correctly selected external braking resistor to improve stopping performance and reduce DC bus overvoltage trips.

This product is a braking transistor module rather than a braking resistor. The required resistor, thermal protection and associated wiring must be selected separately for the installed drive and braking cycle.

Compatible System and Applications

The CDBR-40450D is intended for compatible industrial AC drives with an external dynamic-braking-module connection. Compatibility cannot be determined only by the drive voltage or motor kilowatt rating. The complete drive model, DC bus arrangement, required stopping time, load inertia and braking frequency must be checked.

Typical applications include cranes, hoists, conveyors, centrifuges, winders, unwinders, machine tools, test stands, material-handling equipment and machines requiring controlled rapid deceleration.

Maintenance and Replacement Notes

Confirm the complete model CDBR-40450D, even when the existing documentation or market listing uses CDBR-4045D. Verify the DC bus voltage, drive terminals, resistor resistance, resistor power rating, duty cycle, thermal protection and enclosure ventilation before installation.

The minimum connectable resistance must not be treated as the automatically recommended resistor value. The final resistance and wattage must be calculated for the drive capacity and mechanical braking cycle.

CDBR-4045B is the corresponding previous-generation 18 A unit. CDBR-40450D may be considered during an upgrade, but it should not be treated as a plug-and-play replacement without checking mounting dimensions, terminals, control wiring and resistor configuration.
