Applications of Zinc Oxide
- Rubber industry: Enhances vulcanization, reinforcement, and anti-aging properties
- Glass production: Increases transparency, brightness, and thermal stability
- Paints: Provides coloring, anti-corrosion, and UV protection
- Electronics: Used in magnetic materials and ferrites
- Phosphate solutions: Enables effective metal surface treatment
- Ceramics: Used for coloring and printing applications
- Chemical catalysts: Preferred material for desulfurizers
- Textiles: Creates anti-UV and antibacterial fabrics
- Medical: Used as astringent in ointments and plasters
- Sunscreen cosmetics: Primary UV filter ingredient
Zinc Oxide Production Methods
Direct Method:
Uses zinc ore, zinc ash, or zinc concentrate as raw materials. Reduced with coal at high temperature to produce zinc vapor, which is then oxidized to form zinc oxide. Typical purity ranges from 75% to 95%.
Indirect Method:
Uses zinc ingots or zinc slag as raw material. Zinc is vaporized at high temperatures (1000°C+) and oxidized to produce high-purity zinc oxide (99.5%-99.7%). Used for rubber, paints, pharmaceuticals, and other industrial applications.
Wet Process:
Produces zinc oxide with fine particle size and large specific surface area. Uses zinc-containing solutions to precipitate zinc compounds, which are then calcined. Ideal for applications requiring active zinc oxide properties.
