Currently, it is confirmed that lenses with a double-Gauss structure deliver the best results. This structure typically features focal lengths between 35-58mm, apertures ranging from f/1.4 to f/2.8, and lens configurations most commonly consisting of 5 groups with 6 elements, though 4 groups with 6 elements, 6 groups with 6 elements, or 6 groups with 7 elements are also found. Other standard lenses may be worth trying, but non-prime lenses, lenses with apertures too small for effective bokeh (below f/2.8), and prime lenses with excessively short focal lengths (e.g., 24mm) will yield poor or negligible results.
Advantages:
- Achieves a swirling bokeh effect while fully preserving the lens's native autofocus and background blur capabilities
- Delivers more natural swirling bokeh and vignetting ambiance
Disadvantage:
Since designs vary by lens model, some lenses exhibit slight vignetting in 3:2 aspect ratios. However, none of the tested lenses show vignetting in 16:9 aspect ratios.
