This is the tanker you need when you are moving heavy crude, bitumen, or residual fuel oil that will not flow at ambient temperature. The tank holds 18,000 liters (less than standard tankers because the insulation and heating hardware take up volume) and is built on the SHACMAN F3000 6x4 with the proven 340HP Weichai. Tank shell is 6mm carbon steel with internal heating coils running the full length of the tank floor.

Heating comes from two sources: an exhaust gas heat exchanger that uses waste heat from the engine (free energy while you are driving), and a diesel-fired burner for stationary heating at the loading/unloading point. The tank is wrapped in 50mm rockwool insulation with an aluminum cladding jacket — touch the outside after a 4-hour run and it is barely warm. Temperature is monitored via a dial gauge at the rear control cabinet. Target discharge temperature is 60-80 degrees C, reachable in about 45 minutes from cold with the burner.

Heated discharge hose and PD screw pump for viscous oil handling

Discharge uses a positive displacement screw pump rather than a centrifugal — PD pumps handle viscous fluids much better and do not lose prime easily. Flow rate is about 40 cubic meters per hour at operating viscosity. The 3-inch discharge hose is electrically heat-traced and insulated so the product does not cool and clog during unloading. Safety features include a flame arrestor on the tank vent, static grounding reel, and an emergency stop at the rear control station. We shipped two of these to an oil field service company in South Sudan — they run them daily between wellheads and the central gathering station without issues.
