Product Description
2xxx Series Fatigue Resistance 2014 Aluminum Alloy Plate For Aircraft Skin
2xxx Series 2014 Aluminum Alloy Sheet For Aerospace Industry
2014 alloy is primarily used in aerospace/military applications where high strength is critical. For commercial uses, modified 2XXX/7XXX alloys are often preferred due to better corrosion resistance.
Properties of 2014 Aluminum Alloy
Composition
Primarily composed of copper (3.9-5.0%), magnesium (0.2-0.8%), and manganese (0.4-1.2%). Strengthened by precipitation hardening (θ' and S phases).
Mechanical Properties
Tensile strength: ≥425 MPa (T6 temper)
Yield strength: ≥370 MPa
Elongation: 3-10% (varies with temper)
Yield strength: ≥370 MPa
Elongation: 3-10% (varies with temper)
Corrosion Resistance
Poor due to high copper content; requires alclad (pure aluminum cladding) or coatings for skin applications.
Workability
Good hot workability but challenging for cold working (annealing may be needed).
Advantages for Aircraft Skin
- High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Comparable to steel, reducing structural weight and improving fuel efficiency.
- Fatigue Resistance: Suitable for cyclic aerodynamic loads during flight.
- Formability: Compatible with riveting, welding (with specialized techniques), and shaping (e.g., curved skin panels).
- Cost-Effectiveness: More economical than advanced alloys like 2024 or 7075, ideal for non-critical structures.
Common Tempers
| Temper | Process | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| T4 | Solution heat treated + naturally aged | High strength + good ductility |
| T6 | Solution heat treated + artificially aged | Maximum strength/hardness |
| O | Annealed | Soft state for forming |
