5182 Aluminum Alloy Overview
5182 aluminum sheet belongs to the Al-Mg alloy family, offering excellent corrosion resistance, superior weldability, good cold workability, and medium strength characteristics.
This alloy is commonly used for automotive applications including can lids, ship outer plates and decks, and car body panels. We produce 5182 aluminum sheets in all tempers to meet specific customer requirements.
Typical Thickness Specifications
Range: 0.8 mm - 1.5 mm
This thickness range ensures optimal crash performance, dent resistance, and formability for automotive applications:
- Sedan doors: Typically 0.9 - 1.2 mm
- SUV/truck doors: May extend to 1.4 - 1.5 mm for enhanced rigidity
Common Tempers and Applications
O (Annealed): Maximum formability for deep-drawing operations. Very soft and ideal for stretch forming applications.
H111: Slightly strain-hardened for balanced strength and formability. Commonly used in stamped automotive body panels.
H32: Moderately strain-hardened and partially annealed. Provides higher yield strength and superior dent resistance compared to O or H111 tempers. Used when surface rigidity and stiffness are critical requirements.
