Spray Dryer Working Principle
A spray dryer is a drying equipment that rapidly converts liquid materials (solutions, suspensions, emulsions, etc.) into powdered or granular solid products. Its core principle involves the synergistic effect of "atomization + instant heat exchange + gas-solid separation," which can be divided into three key stages:
Material Atomization
Through an atomizer (core component), the liquid material is dispersed into fine droplets (typically 10-100μm in diameter). Atomization significantly increases the material's specific surface area, allowing moisture to evaporate quickly. Common atomization methods include:
- Pressure Atomization: Material is pressurized (3-20MPa) through a nozzle to form conical droplet clusters
- Centrifugal Atomization: Material enters a high-speed rotating disk (5000-20000r/min) and is thrown into droplets by centrifugal force
- Airflow Atomization: High-speed compressed air (or hot air) impacts the material, breaking it into droplets
Instant Heat Exchange and Drying
Atomized droplets fully contact preheated high-temperature drying medium (typically hot air, 80-300°C) in the drying tower. Due to the large surface area, heat exchange occurs rapidly (within seconds), instantly evaporating moisture and solidifying the material into powder or granules.
Gas-Solid Separation
Dried solid particles and humid air flow leave the drying tower and are separated using equipment combinations like "cyclone separator + bag filter":
- Cyclone Separator: Uses centrifugal force to separate most coarse particles into collection bins
- Bag Filter: Filters remaining fine particles from exhaust gas, ensuring compliance and recovering fine powder
Spray Dryer Process Flow
Raw Material Pretreatment
- Material adjustment: Regulate liquid concentration (typically 10%-40% solid content)
- Filtration purification: Remove impurities and large particles through filters
- Temperature preheating: Preheat material to 30-50°C to reduce energy consumption
Drying Medium Preheating
- Heat source provision: Heat air using steam heaters, electric heaters, or gas hot air furnaces
- Airflow regulation: Distribute hot air evenly through air distributors
Atomization and Drying
- Material atomization: Disperse material into fine droplets
- Gas-liquid contact: Droplets contact hot air and solidify into particles
- Parameter control: Adjust feed rate, air temperature, atomization pressure/speed
Gas-Solid Separation
- Primary separation: Cyclone separator removes 80%-90% of coarse particles
- Secondary separation: Bag filter captures fine particles and cleans exhaust gas
Finished Product Treatment
- Crushing and screening: Break agglomerated particles and grade by size
- Cooling and packaging: Cool products to room temperature and package appropriately
- Waste treatment: Recycle or dispose of collected dust and不合格颗粒
