Guidelines for Using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors:
- DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized; ensure correct polarity to avoid damage. Not for AC application.
- Bipolar capacitors are for pulse and polarity reverse circuits, not pure AC or high ripple.
- Do not apply voltage greater than rated voltage; recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage.
- Do not allow excessive ripple current; generally not more than 80% of rated current.
- Use specially designed capacitors for circuits with frequent charge/discharge cycles.
- Capacitor characteristics vary with temperature; lower temperatures ensure longer life.
- Capacitor life is related to temperature; reducing temperature by 10 can double life.
- Capacitance decreases and tg increases with frequency.
- Capacitors stored for long periods may have increased leakage current and reduced withstand voltage; apply rated DC voltage treatment before use.
- The capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal; ensure insulation at the mounting point if needed.
- Do not apply excessive force to terminals or leads.
- When cleaning circuit boards after soldering, avoid halogenated solvents; use recommended solvents like methanol or isopropanol.
- When soldering, maintain distance from the plastic sleeve, keep temperature within 260, and duration within 10 seconds.
- Ensure correct hole layout on the PCB to avoid stress on leads and solder splashing.
