17-4PH is the American ASTM standard grade. 17-4PH Stainless Steel Bar is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel composed of copper, niobium and columbium. The steel has excellent compressive strength, excellent corrosion resistance, excellent machinability and high material hardness. The compressive strength of the steel can reach 1100-1300MPa. In addition, the corrosion resistance of the steel is comparable to 304 and 430 stainless steels.
- Melting temperature range: 1400-1440℃
- Specific heat capacity: 502J/(kg/℃)
- Density: 7.78kg/m³
- Hardness: Available in various specifications
17-4PH can be welded by any method in the solid solution, aging or over-aging state. No preheating is required before welding. If the weld strength is required to be close to the strength of the steel after aging hardening, it must be re-solidified and aged after welding. This steel is also suitable for brazing, and the best brazing temperature is the solid solution treatment temperature.
17-4PH solid solution temperature 1020-1060℃, aging temperature 480-620℃, 4h, with aging temperature depending on specific use requirements.
- High strength: After appropriate heat treatment, tensile strength can reach over 1310MPa
- Good corrosion resistance: Comparable to 304 stainless steel in most media
- Good machinability: Can be formed by various processing methods including cutting, forging, and welding
- Welding performance: Good weldability with post-weld heat treatment required to restore properties
- Aerospace field: Engine parts, aircraft rudders, aircraft chassis
- Petrochemical industry: Pipes, valves, pump bodies
- Medical device field: Various medical instruments and equipment
- Marine engineering field: Offshore platforms and seawater-resistant equipment
- Other fields: Papermaking, food processing, and general metal processing industries
