Product Overview
The Metallic Seat Check Valve PN16 (Model 2212) solves the classic trade-off in check valve selection: you want the durability and media compatibility of a metallic seat, but you don't want the water hammer and slam noise of metal-on-metal closure. The Model 2212 achieves both — a gunmetal-bronze seat ring paired with a precision-balanced ductile iron disc and a short-stroke swing geometry that closes before reverse flow builds destructive momentum. The result: a metal-seated check valve that operates with dramatically reduced slam — maintenance-free throughout its service life because there are no elastomer seats to degrade, no lubricated pivots to service, and no internal coatings to touch up. GGG50 ductile iron body and bonnet, stainless steel SS304 swing arm and hinge pin, EN1092 PN10/PN16 flange connections, 100% FBE coating, DN50–DN300. Manufactured by Shandong Huaze Valve Co., Ltd. (ISO 9001, established 1998).
The engineering challenge behind a "silent metallic" check valve is physics: metal hitting metal makes noise, and the mass of the disc at velocity creates destructive water hammer. The Model 2212 addresses this through disc mass optimisation, stroke geometry, and flow-responsive closure — the disc begins its return journey the moment forward velocity decays, not after reverse flow has already established itself. By closing at the transition point rather than under reverse pressure, the disc lands at reduced velocity, dramatically cutting both sound and pressure surge.
Key Features
Silent Metallic Closure — The Engineering Solution
Traditional metal-seated swing checks slam shut when reverse flow drives the disc back against the seat at full line velocity — a sharp pressure spike followed by a metallic bang, repeated at every pump stop. The Model 2212 uses a short-stroke disc with optimised mass distribution: the disc is lighter than traditional designs, travels a shorter angular distance from full-open to seated, and begins closing as forward flow velocity decays — before reverse flow develops. The disc lands at a fraction of the velocity of a conventional swing check. The gunmetal bronze seat ring, machined to a fine surface finish, accepts the disc landing with reduced contact impact. The result is a metal-to-metal seal with significantly less noise and water hammer than a standard metallic seat swing check — without sacrificing the durability and media compatibility advantages of metallic trim.
Maintenance-Free by Design — No Service Intervals, No Wear Components
"Maintenance-free" in a check valve means the design eliminates all active maintenance requirements over its installed life:
- No elastomer seat to replace: The gunmetal ring is a lifetime component. Unlike EPDM seats that harden, swell, or tear over 10-15 years, the bronze ring maintains its seating geometry indefinitely in water and neutral oil service.
- No lubrication points: The stainless steel hinge pin running in a stainless steel swing arm bore requires zero lubrication — there's nothing to grease, nothing to schedule, no PM task to create.
- No internal coating touch-up: 100% FBE coating at 250 um DFT, spark-tested, oven-cured. Once installed, the internal coating requires zero intervention.
- No actuator calibration: Passive flow operation — no positioner to drift, no spring to fatigue, no limit switch to adjust.
- No stem packing: No penetrating stem, no packing gland, no leak path, no tightening schedule.
The only maintenance action in a 20-30 year service life is an occasional bonnet removal for internal visual inspection during major plant shutdowns — and even this is optional. The Model 2212 is as close to "install and forget" as a check valve gets.
Gunmetal Bronze Seat Ring — Lifetime Seating Surface
The seat ring is cast from gunmetal — a high-strength copper-tin-zinc bronze alloy — precision-machined to provide an ultra-smooth seating face. Gunmetal's natural corrosion resistance in water and neutral oil service means the seat surface remains dimensionally stable for decades. Unlike elastomer seats that chemically degrade with time, temperature, and exposure, the gunmetal ring's properties at year 20 are essentially identical to day 1. The fine surface finish contributes directly to the reduced closure noise — a smoother landing surface absorbs less energy on contact.
GGG50 Ductile Iron Body — Tough Enough for a Lifetime
EN-GJS-500-7 ductile iron: 500 MPa tensile, 320 MPa yield, 7% minimum elongation. The body of a check valve absorbs the full impulse of every closure event — thousands of micro-impacts over its installed life. Ductile iron's fatigue resistance and toughness are fundamental to the "maintenance-free" proposition: a cracked gray iron body creates an immediate maintenance event requiring valve replacement, with associated pipework isolation, draining, and re-testing. GGG50 eliminates this failure mode.
Stainless Steel SS304 Internals — Zero-Corrosion Moving Parts
The swing arm, hinge pin, and bonnet fasteners are all stainless steel SS304 — the only moving assembly in the entire valve. In a maintenance-free check valve, the hinge is the single point of potential failure. A corroded hinge pin binds and prevents the disc from closing. An eroded swing arm loses dimensional accuracy and hangs open. The SS304 arm and pin — immersed in water or oil for decades — eliminate corrosion from the motion path entirely.
Short-Stroke Swing Geometry — Less Travel, Faster Response
Compared to traditional long-stroke swing checks where the disc swings through a large arc, the Model 2212 employs a shorter angular stroke with the disc travelling a reduced distance from open to closed. This provides two benefits: (1) shorter travel distance means the disc reaches the seat sooner when flow decays, closing before reverse flow momentum builds; (2) reduced arc velocity means reduced impact energy at the moment of closure. Together, these produce the "silent" characteristic while retaining the full-bore flow advantage of a swing check design.
100% FBE Internal Coating — Stagnant Water, No Corrosion
Fusion bonded epoxy at minimum 250 um DFT on all internal and external surfaces. In a pump station with a standby pump, the check valve on the idle pump line may sit full of water for months between cycles — the perfect environment for internal corrosion if uncoated. FBE eliminates this permanently. The smooth epoxy surface also reduces disc-to-seat sticking that can occur with corrosion products on uncoated internals — keeping the disc free to move even after long idle periods.

Ideal Applications — Where Silent Metallic Excels
- Unmanned / Remote Pumping Stations: No service visits, no maintenance crew, no PM schedule. The 2212 runs until the asset is decommissioned.
- Pipeline Valve Chambers — Residential Adjacent: Reduced closure noise means no complaints from nearby properties about "that banging noise from the valve chamber."
- Multi-Pump Parallel Headers: When one pump stops and the check valve closes, the neighbouring check valves on running pumps are still open — the water hammer from a slamming metallic check can propagate through the header. Reduced slam reduces this cross-talk.
- Industrial Cooling Water — Continuous Recycling: Metal-seat durability for oil-contaminated return water, but without the continuous banging that fatigues pipe supports over 20 years.
- Booster Pump Stations — Underground Chambers: Limited access, no power, no ventilation — the environment demands a valve that simply does not need attention.
- Oil / Neutral Oil Transfer Lines: Metallic seat for oil compatibility, silent closure for reduced mechanical stress on flange joints and pipe supports.
