Product Description
316/316L Seamless Pipe - ASTM A312 TP316L Marine-grade Stainless Steel Pipe
316/316L stainless steel seamless pipe is an austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum alloy pipe known for its superior corrosion resistance, especially against chlorides and acidic environments.
316L is the low-carbon version of 316, offering better weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. Both grades are widely used in marine, chemical, and pharmaceutical applications.
Key Advantage: Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.

316 vs 316L - When to Choose Which?
Criteria Choose 316 Choose 316L
General corrosion service
Welding involved - ✓ (preferred)
Thick-wall welding - ✓ (avoid sensitization)
High temperature service (>450°C) -
Maximum strength requirement ✓ (higher yield) -
Standard pressure piping
Quick Rule: For welded applications, choose 316L. For high-temperature service, choose 316.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is the difference between 316 and 316L?
A: 316L has lower carbon content (≤0.03% vs ≤0.08%), which prevents carbide precipitation during welding and eliminates the need for post-weld annealing.
Q: Can 316L pipe be used in high-temperature applications?
A: For continuous service above 450°C, standard 316 is preferred as 316L may have lower creep strength at elevated temperatures.
Q: Is 316 seamless pipe suitable for saltwater?
A: Yes. 316/316L offers excellent resistance to seawater and brackish water, though for stagnant seawater conditions, super duplex (2507) may be recommended.
Q: What standards apply to 316L seamless pipe?
A: Most common: ASTM A312 (general service), ASTM A213 (boiler/heat exchanger), ASTM A269 (precision tubing).
Q: Do you provide custom sizes?
A: Yes. We offer custom OD, WT, and length. Minimum order quantity for custom sizes - please inquire.
