Product Description
Inconel 625: The Ultimate Superalloy for Extreme Environments

Inconel 625 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum superalloy with niobium addition. This unique combination delivers exceptional high-temperature strength (from cryogenic to 1800°F/982°C) combined with outstanding corrosion resistance—including resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and oxidation.

Unlike many high-strength alloys requiring complex heat treatment, Inconel 625 derives its strength from a solid solution of molybdenum and niobium in the nickel-chromium matrix. This makes it inherently weldable and fabricable, simplifying manufacturing while delivering superior performance.

Chemical Composition

The precise balance of elements gives Inconel 625 its unique properties. Niobium (Nb) stabilizes the alloy and prevents sensitization, while high Cr and Mo provide corrosion resistance.

Element Content (%) Role in Performance
Nickel (Ni) 58.0 min (Balance) Base element - provides austenitic stability & corrosion resistance
Chromium (Cr) 20.0 - 23.0 Primary resistance to oxidizing environments & high-temperature oxidation
Molybdenum (Mo) 8.0 - 10.0 Exceptional resistance to pitting & crevice corrosion in chlorides
Niobium + Tantalum (Nb+Ta) 3.15 - 4.15 Solid-solution strengthener; stabilizes against sensitization
Iron (Fe) 5.0 max Controlled for phase stability
Titanium (Ti) 0.40 max Grain refiner & carbide former
Aluminum (Al) 0.40 max Enhances oxidation resistance
Cobalt (Co) 1.0 max Limited to nuclear applications
Carbon (C) 0.10 max Low for weldability & corrosion resistance
This composition meets NACE MR-01-75 requirements for sour gas service and AMS, ASTM, and ISO specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is Inconel 625 the same as Alloy 625?
A: Yes. Alloy 625 is the generic name. Inconel® is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation for the same UNS N06625 composition.
Q: Can Inconel 625 be welded to stainless steel?
A: Yes, using ERNiCrMo-3 filler metal. It provides a strong, corrosion-resistant joint between Alloy 625 and 300-series stainless steels.
Q: What is the maximum continuous service temperature?
A: For oxidation resistance, 982°C (1800°F). For load-bearing applications, consult design codes - typically up to 800°C (1472°F) for sustained service.
Q: Do you provide cutting services?
A: Yes. We cut plate, sheet, bar, and pipe to your required lengths or shapes with fast turnaround.
