Hot processed stainless steel round tube refers to seamless tubing manufactured through hot forming operations, where solid stainless steel billets are heated to approximately 1200°C (2190°F) and then pierced, rolled, and elongated to achieve the desired dimensions. This manufacturing method produces a tube with no longitudinal weld seam, offering uniform mechanical properties, consistent wall thickness, and superior pressure-holding capability.
The hot processing method – also known as hot finished or hot rolled – is particularly suitable for larger diameters, heavier wall thicknesses, and applications where extremely tight dimensional tolerances are not critical. Compared to cold drawn tubes, hot processed tubes offer cost advantages for standard sizes and are available in a wider range of diameters and wall thicknesses.
The seamless hot formed construction eliminates potential weak points associated with welded seams, making hot processed stainless steel round tubes the preferred choice for high-temperature and high-pressure applications in chemical processing, power generation, oil and gas, and general industrial service. The absence of a weld seam also eliminates the risk of weld-related corrosion issues such as intergranular attack or preferential weld corrosion.
Hot processed stainless steel round tubes are available in a wide range of austenitic grades, including 304/304L, 316/316L, 310S, 321, 347, and duplex grades such as 2205 and 2507. The tubes are typically supplied in the solution annealed and pickled condition (AP finish), which removes mill scale and restores corrosion resistance.
