High Pressure Duplex Stainless Steel Pipe 550 MPa Yield Strength Corrosion Resistance
High pressure duplex stainless steel pipe is specifically designed and manufactured to withstand extreme internal pressures while maintaining structural integrity and corrosion resistance. The unique two-phase microstructure (austenite + ferrite) provides approximately twice the yield strength of standard austenitic stainless steels such as 304 and 316, allowing for significantly thinner wall sections at equivalent pressure ratings.
Our high pressure duplex pipes are produced seamless (preferred for high pressure service) and are suitable for applications ranging from hydraulic systems and chemical injection lines to subsea control systems and high pressure oil and gas production.

| Grade | Yield Strength (MPa) | Relative Wall Thickness (vs 316L) | Maximum Operating Pressure* |
|---|---|---|---|
| 316L (Austenitic) | ≥ 205 | 1.00x (baseline) | Moderate |

At equivalent OD and pressure rating, duplex pipe requires approximately 40-50% thinner wall than 316L.
Same OD (25.4 mm / 1")
| Grade | Wall Thickness | Calculated Burst Pressure (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 316L | 3.0 mm | 45 MPa (6,500 psi) |
| 2205 | 3.0 mm | 100 MPa (14,500 psi) |
| 2205 | 2.0 mm | 65 MPa (9,400 psi) |
| 2507 | 2.0 mm | 85 MPa (12,300 psi) |
Burst pressures are theoretical estimates. Actual pressure ratings must be calculated per ASME B31.3 or applicable code.
- High Yield Strength – Up to 550 MPa minimum (80 ksi) for 2507 grade
- Seamless Construction – No weld seam eliminates potential failure points
- Excellent Fatigue Resistance – Suitable for cyclic pressure applications
- Corrosion Resistance – Maintains integrity in corrosive high pressure environments
- Good Toughness – Retains impact resistance at low temperatures
- NACE MR0175 Compliant – Suitable for sour high pressure service
- Precision Dimensions – Tight tolerances for pressure containing applications
For seamless duplex pipe, allowable stress values per ASME B31.3:
| Grade | Allowable Stress (MPa) up to 300°C |
|---|---|
| 2205 | 138 – 158 (dependent on temperature) |
| 2507 | 166 – 186 (dependent on temperature) |
Allowable stress is approximately 2-2.5x higher than 316L (69-79 MPa at room temperature).
| Application | Typical Pressure Range | Recommended Grade |
