Product Description
All four types are high-alloy heat-resistant austenitic stainless steels, designed as "special forces" specifically for high-temperature service conditions. In simple terms: 309S and 310S are "basic models for high-temperature oxidation resistance", while 253MA (S30815) is an upgraded version optimized for strength and cost on this basis.
A comparison of their core properties and industrial applications is as follows:
· 310S (0Cr25Ni20): The top performer in high-temperature oxidation resistance. It has the highest chromium and nickel content (25% Cr / 20% Ni), with a long-term service temperature of up to 1150℃, and excellent oxidation resistance and creep resistance. It is mainly used in extreme high-temperature scenarios such as boiler superheaters, high-temperature furnace tubes, and heat treatment equipment.
· 309S (0Cr23Ni13): A cost-effective choice for medium-temperature ranges. Its heat resistance is slightly lower, with a recommended service temperature below 980℃, but its low carbon content (≤0.08%) gives it significantly better weldability than 310S and strong intergranular corrosion resistance. It is mainly used in medium and high-temperature industrial scenarios such as heating furnace components, heat exchangers, and automotive exhaust parts.
· 253MA (S30815): An economical tough guy with high strength and heat resistance. Featuring a nickel-saving design, it has lower chromium and nickel contents than 310S but is added with rare earth element cerium (Ce) and nitrogen (N). Its short-term high-temperature strength is more than 20% higher than that of 310S, with superior performance in the temperature range of 900-1100℃ and lower cost. It is commonly used in high-temperature pressure-bearing or non-pressure-bearing components such as cement kilns and metallurgical sintering equipment.
 How to choose?
· For cost-sensitive applications requiring higher strength (such as pressure-bearing parts above 900℃), choose 253MA, which is cheaper and stronger than 310S.
· For harsh service conditions with long-term operation above 1100℃ and extremely high creep resistance requirements, choose 310S, whose pure high-temperature oxidation resistance is unparalleled.
· For temperatures below 980℃ with high requirements for welding quality, choose 309S, which is sufficient for this range and easy to weld.
