All are molybdenum-containing austenitic stainless steels with better corrosion resistance than 304, but they have distinct core positioning: 316L is an all-rounder for general corrosion resistance, 316Ti is a stable performer specialized in welding and high-temperature applications, and 317 is a high-end version designed for severe corrosion environments. Core Property Comparison •  316L (Low-carbon grade) : Extremely low carbon content (≤0.030%), providing corrosion resistance without post-weld heat treatment. Suitable for most chemical applications involving moderate salt concentrations and harmful gases, serving as a basic corrosion-resistant material for papermaking, food processing, and marine equipment. •  316Ti (Stabilized grade) : Added titanium (Ti) to immobilize carbon atoms, fundamentally preventing intergranular corrosion in welding and high-temperature conditions with no post-weld heat treatment required. The chemical and petrochemical industry is its largest market (accounting for over 40%), and it is also an essential material for nuclear power, thermal power, and other energy and power applications (25%–30%). •  317 (High-end grade) : Contains the highest levels of molybdenum, chromium, and nickel. Its resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion is significantly superior to the 316 series in harsh chloride-containing and acidic environments. Mainly used in ultra-high corrosion scenarios such as flue gas desulfurization and seawater desalination.  Selection Guide • For general chemical, food, or marine environments where post-weld heat treatment is not feasible: Choose 316L for its cost-effectiveness and reliability. • For equipment operating continuously at high temperatures (e.g., boilers) or requiring extremely high welding quality: Choose 316Ti, whose stabilization characteristic is the key advantage. • When 316L is insufficient for highly acidic media (e.g., high-concentration chloride ions): Use 317, engineered to withstand more severe corrosion conditions.
