The D15 PP waterproof vent is specifically engineered for polypropylene agrochemical pails and liquid fertilizer containers. Its 15mm snap-in or weldable body is molded from high-grade PP, ensuring perfect material compatibility and a strong, leak-free seal with PP pail lids. The integrated ePTFE waterproof breathable membrane provides constant pressure equalization while completely blocking water, fertilizer solutions, and pesticide mixtures. This vent eliminates pail deformation, “oil canning" of lids, and the risk of dangerous spills when pails are stacked or transported. Designed for the rigors of agricultural distribution, it delivers durable, maintenance-free performance from filling station to farm.

Cause

PP pails used for liquid fertilizers, herbicides, and agricultural adjuvants are subjected to harsh conditions. Stacked pails in a warehouse experience top-load and temperature-induced pressure changes that can cause lids to pop open or sidewalls to buckle. Liquid fertilizers, especially those with high salt concentrations, can crystallize and block conventional porous vents. Many agrochemical pails require a tamper-evident, sealed closure, but without a breathing mechanism, the pail becomes a pressure vessel. If the lid is removed after pressure buildup, the sudden release can cause splashing, putting farm workers at risk of chemical exposure.

Solution

By incorporating the D15 PP waterproof vent into the pail lid, manufacturers can maintain a fully sealed, tamper-evident design while providing a controlled breathing path. The PP vent body is welded directly into the lid, forming a mechanical bond that is as strong as the surrounding plastic. How It Works

The vent membrane is a thin, flexible sheet of ePTFE with billions of microscopic pores. When the pail’s internal air pressure rises, air molecules are forced through the membrane. When the pressure drops, air flows in. Liquid, despite being agitated or splashed, cannot penetrate because of the extremely small pore size and the low surface energy of the ePTFE. The PP body protects the membrane from direct impact and provides a flat surface for a secure weld, ensuring the vent stays in place for the entire product life cycle.

How To Choose
  1. Verify your pail lid is PP: this is critical for achieving a permanent weld. If your lid is HDPE, choose the HDPE vent.
  2. Evaluate your filling temperature: hot-filled pails create a strong vacuum upon cooling. Ensure the selected airflow prevents lid dishing.
  3. Test with your specific fertilizer blend: high-salt or low-surface-tension formulations should be tested for membrane compatibility.

  • Q: Can the vent handle thick suspension fertilizers?
    A: Yes, the membrane resists penetration by particulates and viscous fluids, maintaining breathability as long as the inner surface isn’t fully caked. We recommend an interior standoff if heavy sludge is expected.
  • Q: Will the vent keep rainwater out if pails are stored outside?
    A: Absolutely. The IP68-equivalent membrane blocks water even under direct spray or temporary flooding.
  • Q: Can I incorporate this vent into a foil-sealed induction liner?
    A: Normally, the vent is placed beside the induction seal area. Contact us for co-design possibilities for a breathable induction liner.
  • Q: Does the vent release strong odors from fertilizers or pesticides?
    A: It allows gas exchange but greatly reduces vapor transmission compared to open holes. For highly odorous products, we can provide lower air-flow membranes.
  • Q: What is the lifespan of the vent in a stacked pail scenario?
    A: Once welded, the PP body and ePTFE membrane are permanently integrated and will last as long as the pail itself under normal storage conditions.
