Product Overview

This high airflow threaded breather vent features an M20 bolt-type body and a large-surface-area ePTFE membrane to deliver superior volumetric air exchange. It is engineered for enclosures with rapid temperature transients or large internal air volumes that require fast pressure equalization. The robust metal construction maintains IP68 waterproof integrity while handling demanding industrial and automotive environments.

Cause

Large gearboxes, hydraulic system tanks, and voluminous electronic enclosures experience rapid pressure changes that small vents cannot handle. Inadequate airflow leads to time-lag pressure differentials, which stress gaskets and cause oil foaming. High-flow applications also produce oil mist that can saturate standard membranes, clogging them and nullifying venting benefits.

Solution

The M20 high airflow vent bolt incorporates a significantly larger membrane area, achieving flow rates above 1200 ml/min. This ensures instantaneous pressure equalization even during aggressive thermal shocks. An integrated oleophobic treatment repels oil mist, keeping the membrane clear and maintaining high airflow over the vent’s service life. The heavy-duty metal cap protects against mechanical impact.

How It Works

When internal pressure rises, air rushes out through the porous membrane with minimal resistance due to the enlarged area. When the enclosure cools, air rapidly returns. The oleophobic surface causes oil droplets to bead up and roll off, preserving airflow paths. The M20 thread provides a robust mechanical connection that withstands vibration and shock without loosening.

How To Choose

Determine the required venting rate by calculating your enclosure’s air volume and the maximum expected temperature slew rate. If oil mist is present, choose the oleophobic variant. For offshore or marine environments, specify 316 stainless steel. Ensure the housing has adequate wall thickness to support the M20 thread.
