PHPA Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide Emulsion and Powder for Drilling Fluid Shale Inhibition
Product Overview
PHPA (Partially Hydrolyzed Polyacrylamide) is a high-performance anionic water-soluble polymer widely used in oil & gas drilling fluids for shale inhibition, fluid loss control, viscosity enhancement, and borehole stabilization.
BLUFLOC® PHPA Series, developed and manufactured by Bluwat Chemicals, is available in powder and emulsion forms, offering excellent compatibility with most drilling fluid systems including freshwater, KCl mud, sodium and calcium brines.
Through multi-point adsorption and polymer membrane formation, PHPA effectively prevents shale swelling, dispersion, and erosion, helping maintain wellbore integrity under demanding drilling conditions.
Key Functions in Drilling Fluids
-
Shale Inhibition
Forms a crisscross polymer membrane on shale surfaces, reducing hydration and swelling while improving borehole stability. -
Fluid Loss Control
Enhances mud cake quality and reduces filtrate invasion, protecting the formation and minimizing damage to the pay zone. -
Viscosity & Rheology Modification
Adjusts drilling fluid rheology for improved cuttings suspension and hole cleaning efficiency. -
Lubrication & Friction Reduction
Adsorbs onto metal and clay surfaces to form a lubricating liquid film, reducing torque, drag, and drilling risks. -
Cuttings Encapsulation & Dispersion Control
Prevents cuttings dispersion and improves drilling efficiency in complex formations.
