YAK, also known as “the boat of plateau”, is a special kind of cattle found throughout Tibetan Plateau of China and alpine grassland nearby. It is called “yag” in Tibetan. China has over 3000 years of history in domesticating Yak. There are currently over 12 million yaks in China, more than 85% of the world’s total; they mainly distribute in Qinghai, Tibet, Sichuan and Gansu provinces. The rest can be found in Mongolia, Russia and Central Asia.
Yak wool is a durable and lightweight fiber that preserves the skin’s heat in the winter yet breathes for comfort in warmer weather.The most common natural color of the Yak fiber is a dark brown, but they also have the other color such as white, tan, and grey.
