Introduction:
ASTM E162 is one of the most widely used test standards in the United States for evaluating the flame spread characteristics of materials. This test is conducted using a gas-fired radiant panel and a gas burner. The method is widely used to assess the flame spread characteristics of materials used in railway rolling stock, and to evaluate the flame retardant performance of components such as interior panels, ceilings, sound insulation materials, windows, lintels, and seat side panels in accordance with NFPA 130.
This machine is designed in accordance with the ASTM E162 and ASTM D 3675 standards; the equipment adopts test methods to evaluate the combustion characteristics of materials when their surfaces are exposed to fire.
During the test, the specimen is exposed to a radiant heat source and a medium-sized combustion panel for up to 15 minutes. After igniting the specimen, the time it takes for the flame front to reach reference marks is recorded. At the same time, the smoke released, the amount of smoke, and the dripping generated by combustion are also recorded.
