AISI 441 , EN 1.4509 hot and cold rolled ferritic stainless steel sheet and plate
Type 441 is an 18% chromium, dual stabilized ferritic stainless steel with corrosion resistance
similar to that of 304/304L stainless steel.
This grade may be used in the annealed, cold formed or as-welded condition in applications where other
stainless steels such as Type 304/304L and Type 430 are used.
Type 441 has good weldability due to titanium and niobium stabilization and has excellent resistance to
stress corrosion cracking. Type 441 outperforms Type 409 in both oxidation and corrosion resistance
and typical applications include automotive manifolds and exhaust system components.
The high temperature strength of Type 441 exceeds that of both Types 439 and 409 stainless steels.
441 stainless grade is characterised by:
- Elevated hot mechanical properties without risk of σ phase
- formation at intermediate temperatures
- Greater thermal conductivity than austenitic with a lower
- coefficient of expansion.
- Good resistance to pitting corrosion
- Good corrosion resistance in the cold part of the exhaust
- Good oxidation resistance at high temperature up to 950 °c
- Good weldability
- Ease of forming
