Stainless Steel Grade 304 is the standard 18/8 (18% chrome, 8% nickel) austenitic stainless steel.
It is a non-magnetic alloy in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic as it is cold worked.
It is the most commonly used of all stainless grades.
Stainless 304 can be easily welded and is the choice for many deep drawn, spun or formed parts due to its high ductility.
304 (1.4301) stainless grade combines the following characteristics:
- Good corrosion resistance
- Good weldability
- Excellent ductility giving stretch formability in pressings
- Hygienic surfaces
- Work hardening for spring properties
- Ease of manufacture at the steel mill
This combination of properties leads to stainless 304 grade being used for a wide range of applications including:
Sinks, pots and pans, catering surfaces, architectural cladding, handrails, food processing, water treatment, pressure vessels,
transport containers, surgical instruments, building support products, refrigeration equipment, watch cases, automotive trim,
street furniture, anaerobic digestion, chemical plant, sanitaryware.
