AISI 420 UNS S42000 Hot Rolled Stainless Steel Round Bars
We produce high performance stainless steel bar in martensitic, precipitation hardening steels and ferritic grades.
Products available in forms of hot rolled/forged, cold drawn.
AISI 420, UNS S42000 Stainless Steel - a modification of AISI 410, S41000 with a higher carbon content to
increase hardness, improve strength and give better wear resistance. 420 type of stainless maintains its best
corrosion resistance in the heat treated condition.
It contains a minimum of 12 percent chromium, sufficient to give 420 stainless corrosion resistance properties.
It has good ductility in the annealed condition but is capable of being hardened up to 55 RHC.
Its best corrosion resistance is achieved when 420 is hardened and surface ground or polished.
In the hardened condition, 420 has good corrosion resistance to the atmosphere, foods, fresh water, mild alkalies
and acids, steam, sterilizing solutions, crude oil, gasoline, and other similar corrosive media.
420 is not recommended for use in temperatures above the relevant tempering temperature,
because of reduction in mechanical properties. Principal applications include Bushings, Dental and
Surgical Instruments, Pump Parts, Valve Parts, and Shafts.
General speaking, According to its carbon content, AISI 420 stainless family contains five types.
