Material 439 Grade Polished High Pressure Stainless Steel Pipe UNS S43035 EN10204 3.1
ASTM A268 TP439 Ferritic Stainless Steel Tube,UNS S43035 Steel Tube
Ferritic stainless steels are classified in the 400 series, usually with 10% to 30% chromium content, and are often chosen for their excellent corrosion resistance and elevated temperature oxidation resistance. With greater strength than carbon steels, ferritics provide an advantage in many applications where thinner materials and reduced weight are necessary, such as automotive emission control systems. They are nonhardenable by heat treating and are always magnetic.
A ferritic stainless steel tube, type 439 outperformsboth type 409 and 436 in oxidation and corrosionresistance in the most-demanding environments. Type439 stainless steel tube withstands temperaturesupwards of 1700˚F (927˚C), exceeding the limits of bothtypes 409 and 436.
439
The addition of Titanium to this grade as a carbon stabilizer combined with lower carbon levels makes it a more weldable and formable grade than that of the 430 stainless. The higher chromium content, between 17% and 19%, contributes to a superior high temperature corrosion resistance in various oxidizing environments, when compared to that of the 409 grade. 439 stainless is a good choice for automotive exhaust applications such as down pipes and tubular manifolds requiring good corrosion resistance in the cycling, higher temperature ranges.

439 - UNS S43035:
AISI Type 439 (also known as ASTM XM-8) is a ferritic stainless steel designed to resist corrosion in a variety of oxidizing environments from fresh water to boiling acids. Type 439 is a titanium stabilized, 18 percent chromium alloy that may be used in many oxidizing environments where Type 304 is considered adequate in terms of general corrosion resistance but is subject to chloride stress corrosion cracking. It is often used in place of Type 409 where higher thermal conductivity is required. Type 439 does not require annealing after welding to restore ductility or to provide intergranular corrosion resistance. Type 439 also has superior formability capabilities and is heavily used in the automotive industry; it can be work hardened slightly to increase tensile strength.

Corrosion Resistance:
AISI Type 439 is resistant to attack by potable water and many mildly or moderately corrosive chemical environments which are oxidizing in nature. In various chloride solutions, studies have shown pitting resistance of Type 439 to be superior to that of Type 304. In addition, Type 439 is not subject to stress corrosion cracking which may cause premature failure of austenitic steels in chloride bearing environments such as hot waters used in heat exchangers.
Typical Applications:
Used for parts requiring a combination of good strength and toughness, plus reasonable corrosion resistance. Typical applications are: Bolts, Bushings, Fasteners, Gas Turbine Parts, Mine Equipment, Pump Parts, Petrochemical Equipment, Steam Turbine Parts, Studs, Valve Parts etc.
