Double girder overhead cranes use two girders to make up the crane to travel on the bridge, supported by end cars/end cars on each side. Typically, double girder overhead cranes are designed in a top-running crane configuration, in which a trolley or open winch trolley runs on a track or track mounted on top of an overhead beam. With a double girder design, double girder
overhead cranes help to gain depth to the beams if the crane is placed between or above the beams. Double girder overhead cranes are widely recommended for heavy material handling capacity with heavier lifts and longer spans.
