1. Your air conditioner is blowing warm air

One of the most obvious symptoms of low Freon levels is if your air conditioner is blowing warm or room temperature air. As we have discussed, the car's air conditioning system operates by circulating this pressurized refrigerant. When the number drops too low, it eventually affects performance.

2. Listen to the air conditioner clutch start

When you turn on your car's air conditioning, if you listen carefully, you will hear a "click" that means the clutch is turning. If the freon concentration is too low, the clutch will fail, which means the compressor doesn't have enough refrigerant to pressurize it. In other words, your air conditioning system isn't working!

3. Refrigerant leaks

Another more serious symptom of low CFC-11 levels is a visible leak. If you notice a leak, you'll know it's Freon if it's a "thin" oily substance. These leaks often appear around the compressor under the hood, in the cabin, or leak under your vehicle. If you notice a leak, you should head to your local garage and have an ASE certified technician diagnose the problem and deal with your vehicle's air conditioning issues.
