For milling workpiece of which hardness is below HRC 50 to 55 degree, carbide grade BT50 is applied as raw material(ground carbide rod), BT45 has below physical characters:

Because of the very wide application of carbide flat end mill, different carbide grades are applied as the material to different workpiece materials, accordingly, carbide end mills can be classified by workpiece hardness, there are flat end mills for milling HRC45(+/-3degree), HRC50(+/-3degree),HRC55(+/-3degree),HRC60(+/-3degree). Different coatings are applied to fit difference hardness material milling. They are copper TiSiN coating for HRC45, black NaCo4 coating for HRC50, light copper nACXCo4 coating for HRC55, blue nACo4 coating for HRC60. And for specific materials milling, there is specific design, specific coating combines specific carbide grades. For example, there are carbide flat end mills especially for aluminum and copper(BT50 carbide grade, no coating, AD coating, or DLC coating), there are carbide flat end mills for stainless steels(BT50 or BT55 carbide grade, grey-black TiAlSiN coating).
