ASTM A753 UNS N14080 is a commonly used wrought nickel-iron soft magnetic alloy produced or supplied expressly for use in magnetic cores and other parts requiring high magnetic permeability, high electrical resistivity, low coercive field strength, and low core loss.
The material is capable of being produced in a wide variety of forms and conditions suitable for further manufacture into specific magnetic articles. The desired form and condition shall be specified and should be discussed with the A-one ALLOY before ordering to assure receiving the appropriate product.
Type 4 magnetic alloy is a nickel alloy formulated for primary forming into wrought products. Type 4 is the ASTM designation for this material. 2.4545 is the EN numeric designation. And N14080 is the UNS number.

Electric transformer: Mu metal avoids contact to surrounding circuits.
Storage disks: In hard disks, mu metal prevents interfere of magnetic field to disk.
Mu metal is used in cathode ray tubes to avoid drift in magnetic fields due to redirected electron beam.
Other uses are in magnetic phonographs, magnetic resonance imaging devices, photomultipliers, vacuum containers and superconducting circuits.
