The Olympus PSD-20 is a microprocessor -controlled ,medium-power monopolar surgical diathermy with an re-isolated output rated at 100W .

The PSD-20 is intended exclusively for flexible endoscopic procedures and is designed to be used as part of a complet Olympus flexible endoscope system .

The Olympus PSD-20 has an auditory output indicator with a continuously varialble volume control ,a neutral electrode continuity monitor ,a neutral electrode patient connection monitor ,a endoscope continuity monitor ,a safety -cord current feedback ratio monitor ,an output error monitor and current balance monitor

The Olympus PSD-20 is a microprocessor-controlled ,medium-power monopolar surgical diathermy unit with rf-isolated output rated at 100W .It is a specialist unit intended exclusively for flexible endoscopic procedures and is designed to be used as part of a complete Olympus flexible endoscope system .

All models of operation and output power levels are selected by touch switch controls .The outputs are activated by twin electrical footswitches .

The auditory output indicator produces two tones to distinguish between cut/blend and coagulation modes .There is a continuously variable volume control on the rear panel .

Although disposable or reusale neutral electrodes can be used ,there is only one suitable electrode of each type available :the 3M type 1149C disposable neutral electrodes with single area electrode ,integral lead and specialised connector or a reusable metal neutral electrode and neutral and neutral electrode cable .

The PSD-20 is equipped with a neutral electrode patient connection monitor(for split neutral electrodes)

The PSD-20 weights 11.3kg and has two carrying handles fitted to the sides of the unit .

User facilities

The PSD-20 has five monopolar cutting outputs :one pure cut (100 W) and four blend outputs ,blend 1(80w),blend 2 (80W),blend 3 (60w ) and blend 4(40W).The pure cut output is intended for cutting with minimal coagulation .The blend outputs are intended for cutting with haemostasis ,the higher are the blend number the higher the degree of haemostasis .

The single coagulation output (60W) provided is intended for contact coagulation .

Alarms :Each time the PSD-20 is switched on it performs an internal self-test .It then checks that a neutral electrode is connected .If a safety-cord is attached ,it also checks that an endoscope is connected .

To enable the unit ,the user must set both the cut/blend and coagulation power levels above 0 W or press the stand-by button which recalls the settings used the last time the unit was activated .

For most flexible endoscopic procedures the PSD-20 is designed to be used with the S-cord connected to the body of the endoscope .For broncho-endoscope ,the PSD-20 is designed to be used without an S-cord but requires a diathermy compatible bronchoscope

In common with other modern surgical diathermy units ,the PSD-20 has a neutral electrode continuity monitor ,an output error monitor
