1) Ergothioneine is a naturally occurring amino acid and is a thiourea derivative of histidine. Ergothioneine was discovered in 1909 and named after the ergot fungus from which it was first purified.
2) Ergothinein has unique cell physiological protective functions such as free radical scavenging, detoxification, maintaining DNA biosynthesis, normal cell growth, cell immunity, anti-radiation, whitening and anti-aging, which has broad application prospects in the food, cosmetics, functional food and biomedicine industries, and was included in the EU New Resource Food List in 2018.
