Product introduction
There are several challenges during continuous casting startup because conditions are much different than steady state casting. For example, freezing of the molten steel surface can occur. The tip of the solidified steel shell forms a hook shape solidification structure because the temperature in the mold is too low at start cast. The hooked shell structure leads to inclusion and pinhole defects. In addition, the steel can pick up carbon from direct contact with the un-melted carbon containing mold powder layer. Poor strand lubrication and longitudinal cracks on steel surface are also more likely when the mold slag flow between the mold wall and the solidified steel shell is not sufficient. These issues can have adverse effects on steel quality during cast start. Our exothermic starting powder is designed to solve this problem precisely.
- It minimizes heat loss in the mould for more reliable start of the cast;
- The rapid slag formation protects the steel from reoxidization and improves lubrication increasing yield at the start of the cast;
- Being carbon free, this special powder is especially suited for ultra low carbon steel grades.
