The main purpose of normalizing is to eliminate forging defects, make its composition uniform, good hardness and toughness, and improve the machinability of the material, but also to prepare the organization for quenching and tempering.
Normalizing is mainly used for iron and steel workpieces. In general, normalizing and annealing are similar, but the cooling speed is slightly larger and the organization is finer. This treatment is not normalizing and is called air cooling quenching.
