SAW - HOW IT WORKS
A known sound wave is transmitted along both axes of the glass surface. When the finger or pen makes contact with the screen the sound wave is attenuated. Speed of sound is constant so time is used to determine the location of the attenuation in both the X and Y Axis.
Simple transducers on a glass surface mean that there is nothing to wear out.
Limitations of SAW Touch Screen Technology
Must be touched by finger, gloved hand, or soft-tip stylus. Something hard like a pen, credit card or finger nail won't work
Can be affected by large amounts of dirt, dust, and / or water in the environment.
